Tech experts decode AI and other emerging technologies shaping a new era of customer experiences
Bengaluru, India, April 5, 2023: Walmart Global Tech in India, today, wrapped up the third edition of AI @ Walmart – its annual tech conference focused on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to deliver world-class commerce experiences. The event celebrated the theme AI ‘Powering Retail Technology’ with a unique gathering of technology leaders, academicians and a diverse audience of tech enthusiasts and data science professionals.
Raising the curtain on the event, Hari Vasudev, SVP – Retail Tech Platforms and Country Head, Walmart Global Tech, spoke about the evolution of AI, “Walmart is innovating for the future of retail. We’ve identified core technologies, such as AI, that we believe will have a profound and transformative impact on people and businesses. For instance, our conversational AI capability ‘Converse’, is lighting up multiple use cases within Walmart, such as our chatbot for customers and ‘AskSam’ for our associates. AI @ Walmart is a platform for us to share our learnings with the community as well as hear from other thought leaders across the industry on latest AI developments.”
Some use cases of AI innovations at Walmart include Be Your Own Model, Smart Substitution, Smart Delivery Tags, AskSam, Vizpick and Inventory Scan. AI is an area of constant investment and continues to make inroads into innovative solutions at Walmart. At the summit, tech leaders and academicians discussed AI and its future.
In an exclusive fireside chat, former Indian cricketer Javagal Srinath provided further insights from the world of sports and his experiences in championing technology in cricket. Throughout the day, distinguished speakers shared their perspectives on various themes, including cutting-edge Machine Learning (ML) models, pipelines and principles followed by AI case studies presented by Walmart associates.
This event featured notable leaders from technology and academia, including Prof. Sudeshna Sarkar, Professor, CSE, IIT Kharagpur, Deepika Sandeep, Director, AI/ML, Honeywell and Andrea Shoppach, VP, Global Governance and Next Tech, Walmart Global Tech. The speakers shared valuable insights on the scope and role of women in tech, including career growth, community empowerment and leadership. In addition, a panel featuring Balu Chaturvedula, VP, Engineering, Walmart Global Tech, Rahul Ghosh, Sr. Director, Data Science, Walmart Global Tech, Prof. Richa Singh, HOD, Dept. of Computer Science, IIT Jodhpur and Manish Gupta, Director, Google Research India, discussed about gearing up for the next “techade” by leveraging data science and AI.
